Instructional Media and TechnologyTechnology is one of Wallace State Community College's (WSCC) five strategic initiatives in the transformation to a learning college environment. To engage and motivate students in the learning process and to teach to a variety of learning styles, the technology initiative includes the integration of instructional technologies into the classrooms.Classrooms have been equipped with SmartBoards, Sympodiums, and LCD projectors. In addition, WSCC purchased two Mediasite units, which captures a presentation and automatically streams it to a server for immediate viewing by students. This has been implemented in various online courses through the course management system of WebCT Campus Edition 6. WSCC has been accepted into iTunes U and will begin podcasting to further engage students in the learning process. WSCC will continue to purchase cutting-edge technology to expose students to emerging industry-specific and/or advanced technology and to prepare them for the 21st Century workforce. SmartBoards People choose the SMART Board interactive whiteboard because it helps energize presentations and motivate learners. Combining the simplicity of a whiteboard with the power of a computer, the SMART Board interactive whiteboard engages students and audiences around the world. The touch-sensitive display connects to your computer and digital projector to show your computer image. You can then control computer applications directly from the display, write notes in digital ink and save your work to share later. Best of all, the full-featured SMART Board interactive whiteboard is incredibly easy to use. If you can use a computer, you can use a SMART Board interactive whiteboard. Sympodiums Equipped with the same software as SMART Board interactive whiteboards, Sympodium interactive pen displays are perfect for presenting to groups large and small. The pen display's interactive screen connects to your computer and shows its image. Using the attached pen, you simply touch the screen to control applications and write notes. With a projector displaying this image on a large presentation screen, your audience can easily follow along. Training Materials from Smart Technology
